Birth Control, Drugs, and Nancy Pelosi

Nancy Pelosi has a point.

Yes, you read that correctly. A few weeks ago Pelosi said, “The family planning services reduce cost. They reduce cost. The states are in terrible fiscal budget crises now, and part of what we do for children's health, education and some of those elements are to help the states meet their financial needs. One of those -- one of the initiatives you mentioned, the contraception, will reduce costs to the states and to the federal government.” Great idea.

Now let's go a bit further. Let’s make sure those women on welfare who want help not only get access to the millions of dollars of birth control, but that they use it. If you're on government assistance because you made a mistake, once, OK, no one is perfect. But twice? You obviously cannot keep your legs shut, so it's birth control, or no money. I don't mean hand them the pill. They were so responsible in the first place, I'm sure they'll be responsible when it comes to remembering their birth control. Not. The birth control needs to be the shot that keeps working for weeks and or months afterward. When they've gotten back on their feet (no pun intended) the shots will, of course, not be needed. The only women who would truly be against being given free birth control would be those who are popping out welfare babies for a living. Don't kid yourself, some of these homes bring in more money than you or I.

While we're making stipulations for receiving our tax dollars. Why not random, or not-so-random drug testing. Truck drivers are subjected to it along with a myriad of other employees in private business. Why not the people whom we, with our infinite tax dollars, have "hired" to take care of their own children? You wouldn't hire a nanny for your kids who did drugs , so why are we "hiring" these people to take care of kids?

The system was set up to help the children. How helpful is it for them to have parents that squander the money given to them on drugs? I am, of course, not meaning to imply that all persons on welfare are drug addicts. I'm simply stating that they should be subjected to drug tests before getting their monthly check, food stamps, gasoline vouchers, heating assistance monies, etc. If they fail, they get no check. Two failures, the kids get sent to foster parents where the odds of them getting properly taken care of goes up. Way up. The money, and children, saved with this "program" would be astounding.

So, kudos to Nancy Pelosi. Looks like she finally got something right.
